Pentecost to the conversion of Paul covers a period of about four years. Like the book of Genesis, the book of Acts records the beginning of many things. Acts is the beginning of the Church (Acts 2:2-3), the first internal dissension (Acts 6:1),the first church business meeting (Acts 6:3-6), the first martyr (Acts 7:60), and the first external persecution (Acts 8:1).
During the period between Acts 5:42 to Acts 6:1, believers multiplied. The Hellenists were those who had lived in other parts of the Roman empire. They spoke Greek and some moved into Jerusalem. The Hebrews were the Jews who lived in Jerusalem and spoke Aramaic or Hebrew. The Hellenists murmured against the Hebrews.
