Lesson 2 The Prologue (Rev 1:1-8)
The main subject is Jesus Christ.
The line of communication is from God the Father, to Jesus, to His angel, to John, to angels of the seven churches. and to God’s bondservants
John wrote down faithfully in a book all that he saw. This book of Revelation (1:10) is to be sent to all the seven churches.
God will bless
1) the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy
2) those who hear
3) those who keep what is written in it.
It did not say, those who understand and know everything written in Revelation.
The time (kairos) is “near” means the period/event of things is “at hand” or “imminent” or “any time soon.”
The triune God bless the readers with grace and peace.
Grace to you and peace
1) from Him (God the Father) who is and who was and who is to come, and
2) from the seven spirits (God the Holy Spirit) who are before His throne and
3) from Jesus Christ (God the Son), who is
• the faithful witness
• the firstborn of the dead, and
• the ruler of kings on earth.
To Him (Jesus Christ) who has done 3 things for Christians:
Behold! He (Jesus Christ) is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of Him. Even so. Amen.
God the Father closes this epilogue with three signature characteristics:
• I am (ego eimi) the Alpha and the Omega
• who is and who was and who is to come
• the Almighty.
This prologue, ending with God’s three unique characteristics, guarantees that Jesus Christ’s Second Coming back to earth is sure and soon (Revelation 19:11-16).
