“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” –Psalm 23:1
Waiting is something most of us struggle with. We wait for an answer to prayer, a new job, financial provision, healing, direction, or simply for God to open the right door. While we wait, it is easy to become anxious and wonder, “When will things change? Will God provide?”
Psalm 23 gives us a beautiful reminder that we have a Shepherd who knows what we need.
Think about someone who is waiting for a job. The bills continue to come, the savings may be getting smaller, and each unanswered application can bring discouragement. It is natural to worry. But trusting God does not mean we sit back and do nothing. We continue to apply, make the necessary calls, seek advice and do what we can – but we leave the outcome in God’s hands.
That is what it means to wait on God. We do our part faithfully while trusting Him with the things we cannot control.
David said, “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.” Sometimes God provides exactly what we need, sometimes through unexpected ways, and sometimes He asks us to wait. But whether we are in a season of abundance or uncertainty, our Shepherd remains faithful.
Psalm 23 also reminds us that even when we walk through “the valley of the shadow of death,” we do not need to be afraid, because God is with us.
Perhaps you are waiting for something today. Don’t allow worry to rob you of the peace God wants to give you. Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep walking faithfully with Him.
The answer may not come when we expect it, but we can be confident that the Shepherd knows the way, knows what we need, and will never leave us.
