A healthy body needs clean air, fresh water and nutritious food to function well.
On an average, a man will die after 1) 3 minutes without breathing, 2) 3 days without drinking, 3) 3 weeks without eating.
The Psalmist likens the healthy soul’s needs as follows: 1) Breathing: So pants my soul for You, O God (Psalm 42:1) 2) Drinking: My soul thirsts for the living God (Psalm 42:2) 3) Eating: My tears have been my food, when taunted by men, “Where is your God?” (Psalm 42:3)
When the LORD God formed the first man, He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul. Since that first creation, every human being has been a living soul.
But every living soul since Adam will die. The soul that sins shall die. Only one man, Jesus the Christ, lived on earth, was crucified, was buried and arose from the dead to ascend to heaven.
God’s grace gives spiritual life to anyone who repents of sin and believes in the heart in Jesus Christ. God’s power gives the believer a new spiritual life. God is at work to sanctify the believer’s soul. He is the potter moulding the clay.
In order that your soul functions well, 1) Breathe constantly with the help of the Holy Spirit – By praying without ceasing so that your soul will not be panting from breathlessness. 2) Drink frequently of the living God – By thanking, worshipping and practicing the presence of God, even in your sleepless nights. 3) Eat regularly of the words of eternal life for your hungry soul – By reading, studying and obeying God’s word.
By God’s great grace, your soul will be functioning well, even though your body is ageing and breaking down.
