As we celebrate Easter, I am reminded of the profound message in Phil Wickham’s song, Living Hope. It beautifully captures the Gospel – the journey from separation to resurrection.
The song begins with a sobering truth: our sin created a vast gap between us and God—an unbridgeable distance we could never cross on our own. Darkness surrounded us, and we were powerless to rescue ourselves. Yet, God’s love broke through in our surrender, offering grace we could never earn.
It then asks: “Who could imagine so great a mercy? What heart could fathom such boundless grace?”. It’s staggering that the Creator of the universe would die on a Roman cross for His creation. Romans 5:8 reminds us, “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” The cross was not a reward for our righteousness but a rescue for our failure.
The song culminates with the triumphant declaration: Jesus has risen. By conquering death, He shattered sin’s power forever. This is our living hope – the certainty that the grave is not the end but a doorway to eternity with Him.
This Easter, let us remember that Christ has already broken every chain. Our Lord is alive, and hope lives in us. May we live as evidence that the tomb is empty and sing with joy: Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free! Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me! You have broken every chain; salvation is in Your Name – Jesus Christ, our living hope.
He is risen! He is alive! And because of that, hope endures.
