For those of us who face long hours at work, getting sufficient rest is a challenge. Insufficient rest leads to lethargy, lower productivity and causes our bodies to be prone to sickness. Rest is also mentioned in the Bible. The infinite God ceased (rested) from His creative work (Gen 2:2). Our Lord Jesus told His disciples to take a physical rest for restoration and refreshing after a tiring ministry (Mark 6:31).
Hence the importance of physical rest cannot be underestimated for finite human beings.
Another aspect of rest is spiritual rest. This involves getting connected to God and continuing to trust Him in all aspects of our lives. In Hebrews 4:11, we are told to make every effort to enter that rest, so that we will not fall into the sin of disobedience. In His rest, we will experience the peace that God provides us. Staying close to God through reading His Word and prayer will be some ways where we can enjoy the fellowship of God and delight in His presence.
Do you have the rest that God desires you to have? Reach out to Him and He will give you the rest that you need.
“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt 11:28 ESV)
