What do OT priests do?
In the Old Testament period, Levites served God as full-time priests for Israel. They mediated between God and the Israelites. The other tribes gave tithes and festive offerings amounting to 23%. These collections were for the upkeep of the Jewish temple, for festivals and for the livelihood of the Levites.
What do NT priests do?
In the New Testament period, Christians are consecrated to serve Christ like full-time priests for all nations. They are a temple of the living God and are dispersed to the nations to serve as priests of God’s kingdom and as peacemakers for Christ.
What did Jesus our Great High Priest do?
Jesus, our Great God, became a mere man to serve and He gave His life as a ransom for many. He is the Prince of Peace and the only Mediator between God and mankind (1 Timothy 2:5). He authorises us to pray in His Name and for His glory.
What can we do in the Name of Jesus?
Jesus has authorised all believers to offer priestly service to God in His Name.
We can do so by: 1. equipping ourselves with God’s Word; 2. walking in step with the Holy Spirit; 3. interceding for people around us; 4. practising righteousness at home and at work; 5. worshipping and serving God in the local church; and 6. witnessing to unbelievers.
Our intercessory prayers, love offerings and all good works done for Christ for all saints and for all sinners are like a fragrant aroma to God (Gen 8:21; Eph 5:2; Phil 4:18; Rev 5:8).
God promises to provide for us and protect us as we give of ourselves and our love offerings to do His will.
Interceding for others is an acceptable priestly service to God. Pray for Bethesda Chapel.
“To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood and made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (Rev 1:6).
