Choosing Praise In Every Season

Throughout the Bible, there are proclamations of the greatness of God. “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom.” (Psalm 145:3).

This truth invites us not just to acknowledge His greatness, but to respond in worship. But what does this mean for us in a practical sense?

The Lord is great and most worthy of praise. We bless the Lord in song, in prayer, and in testimony – the Lord who deserves the highest honour and admiration we can bring.

When we sing the song “Great Is the Lord”, it moves from proclaiming the greatness of God to expressing our reliance on Him – the One “in whom we have the victory” and who “aids us against the enemy”.

When we praise the Lord, praise is a gift that honours Him and blesses us at the same time. But why is singing songs of praise so uplifting? Why does it bring us joy and hope? It is because songs of praise remind us of the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness toward us. As humans, however, it is not always easy to find it within ourselves to sing songs of praise when life gets tough or when we are struggling.

But consider this – even in our struggles and suffering, the Lord is still worthy of praise. And perhaps when we are down, that is when we most need to sing songs of praise, because praise can be the catalyst that shifts our hearts and steadies our emotions.

Singing shifts our focus from our struggles to His steadfast goodness. Even when life feels heavy, our praise becomes an act of faith – a way to remember that He is still worthy, even in the midst of pain.

The Bible says in Psalm 150:6, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”. The emphasis is clear – we are called to praise Him.

Praise also helps us gain the Lord’s perspective on what we are going through. The song moves into a chorus that lifts up the name of the Lord and expresses gratitude “for the works You’ve done in our lives”.

For indeed, His greatness is beyond our human understanding.
