The Household of God

1. Citizens of God’s Kingdom (Ephesians 2:19)

Everyone who is born of God belongs to His eternal kingdom through our Lord Jesus Christ. Though we live in this world, we are pilgrims and strangers on earth (1 Peter 2:11). Therefore, we must turn away from sinful desires that fight against our souls. As Christians, we are called to be “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world” by showing Christ in our daily lives.

2. Members of God’s Family (1 Timothy 3:15)

Believers are God’s spiritual children and members of the household of God, which is the church of the living God. Christian families are important building blocks of the church. All maturing believers should live as examples of Christlikeness at home. Pray that God will raise future leaders for Bethesda Chapel from Christ-centred families.

Christian homes should be places where God’s Word is taught and practiced daily (Deuteronomy 6:7). Believers should also gather faithfully with the local church according to New Testament teaching. The church is the pillar and support of the truth of the Gospel to the world.

3. Judgment Begins with God’s Household (1 Peter 4:17)

God judges His household first. Those who reject the gospel will face His final judgment. God has given every believer ministry gifts (time, talents and resources) to serve Him faithfully. As our loving Father, He disciplines His children for their good so that they may grow in holiness and godliness (Hebrews 12:4–11). Jesus died to free us from the power of sin so that we may live righteous lives by faith.

Reflect and Examine Yourself

•   Am I regularly glorifying and thanking God? (Romans 1:21)

•   Am I faithfully serving my Lord Jesus Christ? (1 Peter 4:10)

•   Am I walking by the Spirit or giving in to sinful desires? (Galatians 5:16)
