On 4 May, Dr Ho Boon Tiong delivered a sermon exploring the nature of confession and the meaning of true fellowship – fundamental aspects of our faith that every Christian should understand. But why did he focus specifically on what to do when we sin against God?
The answer wasn’t easy to hear. We already know we’re supposed to confess our sins. We understand that confession involves acknowledgement, thanksgiving for forgiveness, and repentance. Yet, despite knowing this, I found myself deeply struck by how difficult it is to genuinely live it out.
There’s a line in the song Love of God that says:
“It’s so kind, it leads us to repentance And it’s so bright, the darkness has to flee Hallelujah, it cleared my guilty sentence For I was bound but now I stand redeemed.”
The kindness of God’s love – so powerful that it draws us to repentance – makes confession not just possible but liberating. If you’re struggling to confess a sin, or hoping it will just fade away with time, remember: God’s love is so great that we can come to Him freely, lay down our burdens, and receive forgiveness.
How great is the love of God!
