Who dwells in my heart? John 14:1-31 (20 Sep 2015)

What is the condition of our hearts this morning? Are our hearts troubled? Jesus said “Let not your hearts be troubled, believe in God; believe also in me.” Our heart troubles may be caused by our unbelief. Are we lost and trying to find a way out? Are we confused with what is the truth? Are our lives mundane, boring and seems without hope, meaning and purpose?

Jesus said, “I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. No one comes to the Father except through me” Do you believe?

Jesus also said, “In our Father’s house are many rooms.” Jesus is preparing these rooms for us to dwell with the
Father when he returns to take us with him so that we will be with our Father and with Jesus.

It is our Father’s will that we dwell with him. Therefore it is also His desire that He dwells in us. Our heavenly Father is always looking for hearts to dwell in. Who dwells in our hearts today? Troubles or Jesus, who is the way to the Father. Just as Thomas and Philip, we will also have many questions in life. That’s Ok but we must not stay at the questions mark only. We must go beyond that with an answer to life. Is Jesus also saying to us today, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me.”

Truly, truly I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do, and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. What work is Jesus asking you to do today?

When we believe in Jesus, we can ask whatever in His name and He will do it so that the Father will be glorified. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments ” Do we love Jesus? And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever (His presence for eternity), even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

Do you know that the Holy Spirit dwells in those who have believed and received Jesus into their lives? The Holy Spirit dwells with them and in them forever. In this passage of John 14, it is very clear, that the Trinity Godhead dwells in the person who has Jesus in their hearts.

Jesus answered him (Judas not Iscariot), “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with him.” Who is the one that love Jesus? He is the one who keep his commandments.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. As believers, the Holy Spirit dwells in us and helps us. The Holy Spirit is our Helper. We don’t need any other helper.

Our Father is in the business of giving and sending. John 3:16,17 “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life, For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

The Holy Spirit is our Teacher. He will teach you all things. What is He teaching you today?

Jesus also said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

When God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts and when we love Jesus by keeping his commandments it will keep our hearts at peace even in the midst of facing many uncertainties. Do you believe?
