My Salvation Story

A few Sundays ago, our brother Zheng Yang was the speaker. We were asked to share our personal salvation story with the person seated next to us. Thereafter, he invited a few of us to briefly share our salvation story with members of the congregation and I was one of the two worshippers who shared at the 8.00am service. Let me now share it with the rest of you.

I thank God for a very persistent classmate of mine in 1975. He had shared the good news with me many times when I was in secondary 3. I resisted his attempts and deliberately avoided him. My religious orientation then was Taoism and I accompanied my mum religiously to a temple along Balestier Road and the annual pilgrimage to Kusu Island temple was never missed.

One day my friend Donald and I were sitting on the side of a football field to watch an interclass soccer game. Donald again did not waste his time with me. He shared salvation-related bible verses with me and amongst them were John 3:16; Rom 3:23; Rom 6:23. The Spirit of God touched my heart and moved me to acknowledge that I was indeed a sinner and needed Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour. I broke down in tears that afternoon and gave my life to Jesus!

I became the first person in my family to accept the Christian faith. Being the youngest child, my parents gave me a lot of space for my new found faith. I started attending Saturday Youth Fellowship at Bethesda Gospel Hall (Bethesda Bras Basah). On Sundays, worship services were as early as 7.30am and we would return to church in the afternoon for our Sunday school classes.

I was baptised at Bethesda Bras Basah in 1983 and thank God for His leading and protection all these years.

My mum who had been very much instrumental in my childhood religious orientation also came to know Jesus at the age of 75! She was later baptised at Bethesda Chapel.

I thank God for extending His grace so freely and mercifully to me and my immediate family members.

To God be the glory!
