‘Encounter With God’ is a Scripture Union devotional book that I have been using daily for many years for Quiet Time. Using the book together with the Bible, I am able to better understand the context of the Bible passages and apply the relevant lessons in the devotional book.
In the Bible, there are instances where people encountered God. One of the famous examples is Moses’ meeting God at the burning bush when God commanded him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 3:2-5). Another is Saul (Paul) on the road to Damascus when he was blinded by a light from heaven and was converted to be used by God to further His kingdom (Acts 9:3-4). Yet another example is Isaiah who was commissioned as a prophet to represent God to His people (Isaiah 6:8).
In our times, do we encounter God just like these people in the Bible? I once attended a personal retreat session where I experienced the peace and joy of God by observing His creation. We may not have such divine experiences with God like those people in the Bible, but with the Holy Spirit in us and our willingness to seek Him through prayer and reading the Word consistently, we will be able to encounter God and see Him work in our lives.
“Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!” (Psalm 105:4 ESV).
