The above worship song needs no further introduction. As I sang this song during one of the Sunday worship service, I questioned myself whether I do sing it true heartedly and with conviction that the Lord is indeed my Jehovah Jireh.
But the Lord reminded me the following: Did I provide you a job during the financial crisis in 2002 when you seek me and ask for one?…Did I provide you your current house 2 years ago when you needed one crucially to live near your parents’ place?…
The list continues as I counted and recalled the past blessings and answered prayers that the Lord has provided. Indeed, we human beings are very forgetful as we tend to focus on our daily troubles and complaints which crowd our mind daily. We do sometimes worry especially if we hear or see negative news on headlines which may affect our rich bowl or our next pay cheque.
However, as I reflect on Jesus’ teachings in the Bible:
Matthew 6:25-26
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”
I realised that I do not need to worry as I am reminded that our God is the One who cares for us and will supply all our needs. The important thing is to “seek first His kingdom and his righteousness” i.e. let your thoughts and desires to be aligned with His by reading His Word daily; and to serve and obey Him in everything.
So will you join me and say that our God is indeed our Jehovah Jireh?
