Many years back, a new bakery shop opened for business near my old house. What caught my attention about this bakery till this day is the name of the shop – Bread of Life. This reminds me of the words of Jesus in John 6:35
“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Sometimes we are so busy with sustaining our physical life with long hours of work or thinking what to eat next for lunch or inner that we inevitably neglect our walk with the Lord, that is the “Bread of Life” which is so essential for our spiritual life. The percentage of time that we spend in reading the Word of God and prayer is so negligible as compared to the hours that we spend on work, studies or leisure. We will only “activate” Him when we face difficulties and trials in life and seeking Him “vigorously”, but soon after, put Him aside when our problems are solved.
If the above mentioned is a reflection of your current life situation, now is the time to reinstate Jesus to the position that He rightfully deserves i.e. the throne of your life and nothing less. Just like bread, which is the physical food needed to sustain our physical life, we need to constantly ask and invite Jesus in our daily walk to sustain our spiritual life. For in John 6:27, Jesus says “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval”
This verse is a serious reminder to us of our kinship and kingdom-ship in Christ. Do we only pursue physical food and neglect the utmost importance of our existence made to fellowship with Christ?
What is the action plan we need to take since Jesus is the Bread of Life?
– Set a specific time daily for the reading of the Word and prayer
– Ask the Lord to increase your spiritual hunger for Him so that you can grow deeper in Him each day
– Join a small group in church to have fellowship and encourage one another to study the Word of God.
So are you taking the Bread of Life daily?
