Be Still and know that I am God (21 Dec 2014)

Doors are closing…Doors are closing…didididididi…<sound of doors closing>

For those who take the MRT frequently will know that the above are the warning sounds from the train doors when they are about to close. As a daily MRT rider, I do witness people rushing and attempting to board the train when they hear the above, with the risk of being injured by the closing doors. In fact, I must acknowledge that sometimes I am one of those who do so too!

The above scenario is one of the instances that we are indeed living very hectic lifestyles. From rushing for the train to be on time for work to having a quick lunch in the office so that we can be done with our work and leave office as soon as possible show how busy we can be during the day. Sometimes we may wonder if God is with us and in control in the midst of such busyness. As I read the Bible, I was encouraged and comforted by the following verses:

Psalm 46:10
He says, Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” ”

Mark 4:39
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”

The above verses serve as a reminder for us to be quiet and surrender to the Lord. We need to recognise that God is sovereign and is in control of our situations that we are facing. We live in a world where we are bombarded with noises, voices and our own thoughts which may cause us not able to hear the small voice of Him even though He speaks to us. If the above situation is what you are facing now, may I suggest the following ERP method you can adopt to be still and hear His voice:

Expound and read the Word

What the more to know the Lord and understand Him is to spend time daily reading and expounding on His Word. The more you do so, the more you are able to know and hear from Him what His Will is for you.

Reflect and gives thanks to God

As the year is coming to an end, reflect, give thanks and take stock of your Christian life and any ministry that you are involved in. Ask the Lord for wisdom to give you direction in how you can improve and strengthen your relationship with Him and be more effective in your respective ministry.

Pray to the Lord

Commit and surrender all your plans for the new year by praying to God, trusting that He will lead and guide you in all circumstances.

So will you join me to be still and know that He is God?
